International Relocations: What You Need to Consider

If one parent wishes to relocate his/her minor child to another country, the Court needs to assess additional factors, not always delineated in a statute or caselaw, to determine if the relocation is in the child's best interest.  Those additional factors are not just geared toward examining the child's health and well-being, but also towards the law and legal relationship between the other country and the United States.

Melissa Kucinski is a principal at MK Family Law, PLLC, in the District of Columbia.  She has served as a Guardian ad litem/best interest attorney; been a litigation consultant for family law cases; and has provided expert testimony on parental child abduction and international parental child abduction.  She has been a professorial lecturer at The George Washington University Law School.  Widely published and a highly sought speaker, her latest book, Kucinski, Hale, & Coffee's Family Law Across Borders: Cases & Commentaries, was recently released.
