Mark your calendars for the 2008 Joint Conference sponsored by the Local Government Paralegal Association and the Virginia Alliance of Paralegal Associations- October 9 - 11 in Williamsburg at the Marriott at Kingsmill.
We have planned a three day program full of CLE with, we hope, something for everybody.
- Thursday’s program includes a choice between sessions on bankruptcy law or on title searches, followed by a choice between sessions on electronic filings in Circuit Court or on the new electronic notary law, and concludes with a choice between sessions on immigration law or Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- The first session on Friday will be a discussion about military criminal law and the laws applicable to the Guantanamo Bay Trials. You will then have a choice between a session on criminal appeals or the basics of elder law. Lunch on Friday is sponsored by DTI, Inc., who will be making a presentation on electronic data discovery. After lunch you will be offered a choice between a session on parliamentary procedure or one on family law. We wrap up Friday with a trip to The Center for Legal and Court Technology at the law school at the College of William & Mary, where we will hear about the latest in courtroom technology while visiting the country’s most technologically advanced courtroom. Friday evening there will be a reception to celebrate Paralegal’s Week.
- Saturday’s topics include a talk on the history of the paralegal profession, a lecture on legal ethics and a panel discussion on career opportunities for the independent paralegal.
Although we are hosting a three day conference, you do not need to register and attend all three days. The cost to attend one day is $75, two days is $125 and three days is $175. You will not find a better conference for the price. The registration fee includes all handout material, breakfast and lunch all three days, and priceless opportunities to network and just enjoy the company of other paralegals from all over the Commonwealth.
If you want to stay overnight, we have worked out an amazing room rate with the Marriott - $70 a night. Call 1-800-442-3654 to make your reservations, and be sure to tell them you will be attending the VAPA/LGPA Conference. But don’t wait too long — space is limited and our block of rooms is filling up fast. The brochure for the conference will be sent out electronically in late July. The brochure will provide much more detail on topics and speakers. It will also be available on the VAPA website (www.vaparalegalalliance.org). You will receive a hard copy of the brochure in the mail some time in August. So make your plans now to attend - you do not want to miss this conference!
NALA has approved the conference for 13 hours of total CLE credit. NALA's policy is to round up 1/2 hours after 1 hour so 1.5 hours of CLE is worth 2 hours of CLE credit.
