PACE Ambassador’s Conference
Minnesota June 19-21, 2009
Tidbits

The PACE renewal Amnesty Program is over. It concluded in April 2009. Several paralegals took advantage of this program and many reclaimed their RP’s designations.

PACE logo items are being discussed and will be added to the www.paralegals.org website once available for purchase. Funds will be applied to PACE costs and one-half of any profits will go to FAPP (Foundation for the Advancement of the Paralegal Profession). To find more information about FAPP (aka PACE Foundation) visit the NFPA website link provided under the PACE/RP tab.

Remaining 2009 PACE on-line review courses are still available. Start dates are as follows: 7/20/2009 (HURRY), 9/8/2009, 10/19/2009, and 11/2/2009. Cost of AIPS course is still $395 and you can register at www.paralegals.org. AIPS also offers CLE’s for paralegals. If you register for an AIPS CLE through www.paralegals.org, NFPA receives a percentage of the revenue generated.

Keep those PACE testimonials coming in. As many as possible will be published in the National Paralegal Reporter (a nice tidbit to add to any resume). Contact Karen Nelson (kaxell@earthlink.net) for more information.

PACE Study Listserve is up and running. Anyone studying for PACE can sign up as follows:

Send an email to imailserv@list.paralegals.org.
In the message BODY (not the subject line) type: subscribe (the listserve name) YourFirstName YourLastName (Example: subscribe PACEStudy Karen Nelson)
To send a message out on the list serve, use the following email address: PACEStudy@list.paralegals.org.
This list serve is monitored by PACE Coordinators as a way to provide support and encouragement to those who are studying for PACE.

PACE President’s Challenge: Any association with 2 new RP’s and the association with the most RP’s by October 2009 will be awarded with a certificate. All winning associations will receive recognition at the annual NFPA Conference as well as in the National Paralegal Reporter. The current PACE passing percentage is 86%. This is the highest ever passing rate. Scoring runs are twice a year at 9/30 and 3/31. Instant results are unofficial. An RP may begin using their designation once the official letter is received from NFPA headquarters!

RP anniversary date is the date of exam. I took PACE on March 16, 2001. Therefore, my official renewal or anniversary date is March 16 in every odd year. Renewal applications should be submitted for review no later than 60 days prior to your renewal/anniversary date.

Please consider donating your study manual to share with other members planning to take PACE. Flash cards are available now and more are coming (glossary terms with Latin) soon. Contact Karen Nelson.

The current Study Manual (5th Ed.) has multiple typos and reference issues. There is an errata sheet available for those studying for PACE. Please take the time to fill out so that all the corrections can be made. This should not impact passing the test. It’s just bothersome and an embarrassment. Want to know how this happened? Contact Karen Nelson. Errata sheets are available online, but I have some of those as well. www.paralegals.org

You can order the new Study Manual directly from the publisher, Prentice Hall.  The cost is $77.40 plus shipping and handling, which will vary depending on where you live and the method of shipping you choose.  The cost of the PACE application is now $25.80. The examination fee is $225, and for non-NFPA® members the examination fee is $250 (effective July 1, 2005). Once the application has been approved, the exam must be taken within 90 days.

NFPA is offering PACE Scholarships. The DEADLINE IS 7/31/2009!!!!! These scholarships are only available to members of any NFPA member association such as PANV. (Membership applications to join PANV are available at our website, www.panv.org.) Go to www.paralegals.org for more information and a copy of the scholarship application. If you receive a scholarship, NFPA will pay all of your expenses to attend the 2009 Conference in Portland, Oregon, in October!!!

PANV will award RP pins to those passing PACE at future meetings or seminars. PANV will continue to recognize all RP’s as part of our continuing effort to promote PACE and the paralegal profession.

NFPA’s 2009 Conference is scheduled for October in Portland, Oregon. PANV will be well represented.
